WHAT ARE YOUR HOURS?
The Well is open year round, seven days a week in season. In season hours are basically 9a to 7p but call first. We close on Wednesdays starting the week after Labor Day, and are closed Wednesdays & Thursdays in the off-off-season.
You can see our hours here, but please know that as a seasonal business we keep seasonal hours - that means we may open late or close early if nothing's happening!! The other side of that coin is that we will also open early or stay late to accommodate you! On-line booking will show basic availability but it's not 100% so attach a note to your booking if you don't see what you like.
Do call anytime - we are a mom & pop business, always forward the phone to our cell & love to take your calls before or after hours if we can! 609.884.3177

WHAT'S AN INTERN? WHY ISN'T THERE AN INTERN AVAILABLE ALL THE TIME?

WHERE'S DEEP TISSUE? WHERE"S SWEDISH?
Deep Tissue seems to have become code for "hurt me" and Swedish for "pamper me." But that's not right! Every client, every therapist & every massage is different. We always start with the basic idea: How can We help You feel better? What is going on for You today? What can We do for You at this moment? Should we address that shoulder issue that your PT is wrestling with? And/or are you at the end of your rope after a rough day/month/year & just need to chill?
Our therapists are good listeners with strong hands! They'll apply deeper pressure where needed & tolerated, accessing other techniques like myofascial, trigger point or acupressure to gently work stubborn areas without pain.
Are you looking for a full hour of foot acupressure by a Board Certified Reflexologist (1), some extra attention to your feet during a full body massage (3, 4), or somewhere in between (2)?
True Reflexology is not just foot massage. Reflexology is pinpointed pressure (acupressure) to specifically mapped areas in the foot (hand & ear too) that have a reflex action on other parts of the body (big toe=head/neck, base of toes=sinus, etc.) Reflexology works holistically to enhance self-healing & balance energy flow. It is also used specifically to stimulate certain organs or body functions. Reflexology & its techniques are great for treating stress-related illness or emotional disorder. It's also super useful when trying to treat an area of the body that has been traumatized to the extent that direct touch is not helpful.
Certification in Reflexology by the American Reflexology Certification Board asks for 110-hours of hands-on supervised practice in Foot Reflexology, plus college-level anatomy/physiology study.
(1) The Well is happy to refer you to Certified Reflexologist Peggy Moore (one of only three in South Jersey). She practices in the Sea Isle City area.
(2) Most of us have been trained in the techniques & theory of Reflexology, & we can easily incorporate this type of foot acupressure it into a full-body massage. Ask when you book or add a note to your online booking & we will pair you with an appropriate therapist.
(3) If you're just looking for extra time on your feet, might we suggest adding a Sweet Feet mini-treatment to your massage? Complete with sugar scrub and herbal clay wrap, Sweet Feet adds 15-min to your massage time for an additional $35.
(4) Of course, the feet are included in every full-body massage! Just tell your therapist to give your feet some extra attention as part of your fully customized Well-Being Massage!
WHAT'S HOT LAVA?!?
We call them Hot Lava - they're actually hydrocollator packs, canvas sacks stuffed with volcanic ash that sit all day in hot water heating units (hydrocollators), used in all kinds of hydrotherapy treatment settings including chiropractic, physical therapy etc. We place the packs on your back/shoulders when you are face down on the table, letting the moist heat soften the tissue (incidentally sending you to La-La Land) while we work on back of legs, hamstrings, glutes & feet. Then when we get up to your back we can work much more deeply without discomfort.
DO YOU DO COUPLES MASSAGE?
Yes! Our regular space at The Well proper limits us to 60min or 75min Couples Well-Being only.
For this summer through 15 September, we have a new Couples Room across the Alley - a private apartment behind the inactive b&b next door. Look for Alley Couples 90min plus the other Alley Couples offerings. We can also do Add-Ons like MiniFacials or Sweet Feet, even body wraps or Thai Massage. Please call us & we'll help you to build a special couples experience of your own.
Still, for all Couples massages, neither partner can be pregnant! (see Prenatal Massage below).
For something special, try a Couples Hot Lava for 75min! Save $10 for this special package. We can do this in the Alley too!
DO YOU DO PRENATAL MASSAGE?
Yes! 60min only since longer can be taxing to mom's system. Performed on a special adjustable table with piles of pillow to accommodate side-lying or tilted positions. Priced the same as our Well-Being Massage.
Massage in the first trimester is not specifically contraindicated, but many therapists including some at the Well will not work on a first trimester pregnancy, basically for liability reasons. Believe it or not, WebMD has the best take on this - see Is Pregnancy Massage Safe? If you're in your first trimester please let us know beforehand so we can work to accommodate you.
WHY NO PRENATAL AS A COUPLE?
Some moms feel faint lying flat (pressure on the vena cava) or get overheated (not good for baby) - you can say, that's not me, but you may not find out to the contrary until you are all snug on the table! Our first concern is your comfort and safety, but why interrupt your partner's experience while we work to make adjustments for you? Book at the same time in separate rooms and you will both enjoy relaxation to the fullest.
CAN CHILDREN GET MASSAGE?
Under 18 we like to ask for parental consent. Children younger than 14 or 15 are generally not going to benefit from more than a half-hour of massage unless they are athletes or dancers - let's put our heads together to design an appropriate treatment (maybe a half-hour massage plus a Mini-Facial?)
DO YOU DO AROMATHERAPY? WHAT KIND OF OIL DO YOU USE?
All our massage is aromatherapeutic **unless otherwise requested** featuring custom-blended essential oils. Our go-to is Replenishing Blend, which is Geranium, Rosemary & Patchouli (Balancing, Stimulating & Grounding.) Most people aren't conscious of any particular aroma - they just know something smells great and they feel relaxed.
Sometimes we'll use other signature Well blends like Relaxing, Vetiver Blend or Valkyrie, and can also do spot treatments for sinus or headache (Fir & Cornmint is a current favorite.) Any essential oil or blend is used in very light dilutions of generally 0.01% or about 16 drops per 8oz of oil. We are happy to customize as long as Martha or another qualified mixologist is available!
Drew has been making our massage oil since 1996 at the Well and its previous incarnation Oasis in Montauk NY - it's a combination of Grapeseed & Hazelnut oils that we named Superior Glide because that's what it has! Very important for massage! It all started when Drew discovered while working at high-end spas in NYC that B*****e and other leading makers of commercial massage oil use additives that make their massage oil water-dispersable to help spas save on sheets/laundry. He discovered this when a colleague developed an eczemic reaction to it— on her hands! Why!
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Cape May Casual! Really, it doesn't matter what you arrive in because you will be taking it all off soon enough. If you could rinse the sand/suntan lotion off first it would be nice!!
Once in your massage room, your therapist will leave you in privacy to disrobe to your comfort level - everything on top will need to come off so we can address your back, neck & shoulders. Bottoms off is easiest for us to address glutes, hamstrings, lower back, but certainly leave them on if you feel more comfortable that way.
We have fully clothed options - Thai Massage, Shiatsu are both performed on the floor fully clothed. Table Thai can be done clothed too. Table TuneUps are a quick fix & usually available on a walk-in basis (always best to call first)
WHAT TYPES OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
All credit cards, cash, local checks.
ARE MASSAGE/BODY TREATMENT GIFT CERTIFICATES AVAILABLE?
Absolutely! You can buy gift certificates online here to email or print out. We also offer gift cards in smaller denominations - visit our shop or give a call for more info.
WHAT'S WITH SPAFINDERS?
Sorry but we are not accepting SpaFinder or SpaFinder Wellness 365 gift cards or gift certificates after 29 May 2017. They changed over to a debit-style card that is reloadable, which is fine but they decided to raise their commission from 17% to 20%. Too high for us especially considering the most recent review they had for us on their "spa finder" website was from 2012! SpaWeek upgraded to the same reloadable style card last summer without raising rates, they are at 16%. And now you know!
WHERE DO I PARK?
Yay! No meters in West Cape May! You can usually find on-street parking on Broadway or Myrtle Ave across from Dock Mike's. We also have a few designated spots down McCullough Alley just behind The Well.
